Museum Mission and History

Mission

The museum is a workplace dedicated to documentation, scientific research and methodology regarding the history and culture of Croats in Slovakia from their arrival in the territory of today’s Slovakia to the present day. The museum collects, protects, professionally curates and presents material evidence related to its primary focus.

History

In 1996, the Documentation Centre of Croatian Culture was established as a department of the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum, focused on the history and culture of the Croatian national minority in Slovakia. From its inception, it aimed to transform into an independent specialized national museum with nationwide scope of activity within the Slovak National Museum. This process took place in 2006. The museum is based in a purpose-built building in the Istrijská Street in Devínska Nová Ves.
