Marián Kompánek lives and works in the nearby village of Divín, which is historically related to Modrý Kameň Castle. In his childhood he spent a lot of time at the home of his godfather, Rev. Ján Labanec in Lom nad Rimavicou, where he walked in the deep forests and fields in Lom and its vicinity, collecting mushrooms, looking after cattle, drying hay and living with simple and good people. Thus, his relation to nature became very close.
In his work, Kompánek celebrates love, penetrates the soul of man, and expresses world views. The central theme of his paintings are his life and childhood memories. Among others, he passionately paints wild poppies. His paintings are predominantly in oil and acrylic paints. In 2014 Kompánek and his wife opened the Bloom Gallery in Divín, where he focuses on contemporary art, organizes art competitions for children, and international painting symposiums and exhibitions. He provides space for professional and amateur artists who create artwork depicting life in the Novohrad Region.
In addition to painting, he writes short prosaic reflections which complement the view of his exhibitions.
