Destinies VII. – Identity

The Turiec Regional Cultural Center in Martin prepared a series of photography workshops within the project OSUDY VII. (Destinies VII) where patients of the Psychiatric Hospital in Sučany depicted their identity first by drawing, then by describing their feelings in stories through shadow play and the camera lens, and by leaving their traces through the luminography technique.
You can see the results of the works that capture the memories, feelings, desires, and ideas of the patients at the exhibition entitled IDENTITA (IDENTITY). The entire exhibition is comprised of three units, connecting the depiction of the stories of people we all know about, but which tend to be overlooked in today’s fast-paced society. The exhibition of psychiatric hospital patients is thematically complemented by photo collections created by Lenka Lindak Lukačovičová and Petr Dobiš.
In her collection of photographs entitled Červená kniha (The Red Book), Lenka Lindak Lukačovičová, opens the door to the world of prisons, which form part of our country and our society, and as spaces separating prisoners from “normal life.” “Prisons as places full of stories. Lenka’s work features various techniques in the form of digital printing and manual enlargement on glass or canvas, by which she touches on the issue of originality and reproduction in photography. She also raises the question of authorship, since she herself created some of the images (prison premises), while appropriating others from various websites (portraits). The individual motifs of prisons thus take on a distinctive visual language, reminiscent of other art genres and evoke various emotions, thanks to which Lenka creates a complex image of these socially and visually specific spaces.”
