International Archeology Day in Martin

Come celebrate International Day of Archeology with us at the Ethnographic Museum. We look forward to seeing all lovers of interesting findings and history on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Martin. International Day of Archeology falls on the third Saturday in October, during which time archaeologists will prepare various events and activities for the general public. They will demonstrate research methods and present valuable discoveries. It won't be any different at our museum, where we have prepared a full program of events for you.

The history as well as the hypothetical recreation of four stone castles of the Turiec region will be presented by archaeologist Mgr. Marek Both and historian Mgr. Milan Georgievski, PhD, the creators of the exhibition entitled The Castles of the Turiec Region. The guided tour of the exhibition will begin at 10:30 a.m. The story of the Blatnica sword, which was found near Blatnica Castle, is also a part of the history of the Turiec region. You will learn more about this rare discovery and exhibition history at 1:00 p.m. from our archaeologist; you will also be able to admire the replica which is on display.

At 3 p.m. the historian will take you back to the times of the Middle Ages and bring you closer to the life in this period. An exhibition of medieval ceramics will also be part of the event and an experienced potter will demonstrate its production. There will also be creative workshops where both children and adults can work with ceramic clay, make paper castles or other models, and experience the work of archaeologists in a makeshift archaeological sandpit.
