Castles of the Turiec Region

Do you know about the castles around you? Slovakia is full of medieval castles, many of which are just ruins. Several are located in the small territory of the Turiec basin, but in comparison with other regions, the stone castles of this region are lesser known.

The exhibition entitled Castles of the Turiec Region, implemented with the financial support of the town of Martin, will present the stone castles of this region and will give visitors an idea of how they used to look. Through models, photographs, interesting information, and period items you will feel as if you’re standing in and next to Zniev, Blatnica, Sklabiňa, and Sučany castles. The exhibition will also feature miniature reconstructions of these castles (at scales 1:200 or 1:72) created by Marek Both, an archeologist at the Slovak National Museum in Martin. You will also see archeological findings mostly from the Turiec Region, such as crafts products of everyday use, parts of a horse harness, cold and fire arms and other interesting artifacts from the collection of the Slovak National Museum – Museums in Martin.
