About the museum

The Museum of Puppet Culture and Toys at Modrý Kameň castle is a specialised museum serving all of Slovakia and focusing on documentation of the history and culture of puppet theatres and the history and development of children’s toys as well as the history of the region in which the museum is located.

Cultural, artistic, historical, archaeological and ethnographic artefacts accumulated by the museum in its focus area are brought here, duly processed, protected and made publicly available through permanent exhibitions and various cultural events which are particularly popular among children and young people.

The castle complex comprises ruins of an old Gothic castle (13th Century) and a Baroque manor house (since 1730) where the museum is located.
