Furniture in the museum

from 28. 6. 2019 to 29. 9. 2019

The Slovak National Museum – The Museum of History invites you to an exhibition that reveals the journey of a collection item through the museum and the processes it undergoes before being put on display. You will see the period-style and folk-art furniture that has been revitalised and then digitised. Out of more than one hundred items on display, most are restored. Between 2016 and 2018, the Museum spent considerable funds to restore and treat 58 pieces of furniture, all of which were subsequently restored by the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic – Regional Restoration Studio in Levoča. The exhibition concept presents furniture grouped by themes representing key professional museum activities with regard to collection items. The exhibition also features digital technologies guiding the visitors with plentiful pictures through the process of restoration, focusing on the final condition of the restored items. Adding a fresh spark to the exhibition will be a show of folk-element-inspired contemporary art by creative artist Marek Kvetan and his three light-sound objects called "ECHO".

Kids or grown-ups, investigators of all ages will enjoy a detective game hidden in the exhibition halls. Use keywords to uncover a hidden object. Game instructions are detailed at the venue.

The exhibition will be held at the SNM – The Museum of History at the Bratislava Castle, 2nd floor, from 28 June to 29 September 2019.
