The exhibition to mark the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution documents the year 1989 through social and cultural phenomena of the time.

Every nation has a story of its own. A story with ups and downs as its inseparable parts. Some changes are fast and significant, some are very slow, taking place little by little. In November 1989, no one could know whether there would be any use of the police, People's Militia or even military forces against the demonstrators. In those days, a mere fact that the police didn't intervene against the demonstrators was considered a success, and a chance to sit with government officials at one table was considered a minor miracle. The peaceful course of the demonstrations and the subsequent political changes predetermined the revolution to be named "Velvet" ("Gentle" in Slovakia). The Velvet Revolution brought hope, love, and faith in a better life in freedom.
