Life in Castles and Forts
The exhibition, through objects from the collections of the Slovak National Museum – Archaeological Museum, the Slovak National Museum – Museums in Martin, and the Monuments Office of the Slovak Republic, presents daily life at noble residences, documenting their economic background as well as the life of society on the surrounding estates. Visitors will explore topics such as the architectural development of castles along with their defensive functions, the economy, craft production and trade on the individual estates, and the breeding of livestock. It will also showcase the workings of the noble court, including the kitchen, dining customs, clothing and jewelry, leisure activities such as toys and games, as well as healing practices and items related to faith.
The exhibition is supplemented by aerial photographs of several castles, documenting their current appearance. A model of the Korlátka Castle, in a 1:72 scale, brings visitors closer to the historical state of the castle in the 17th century.
In the near future, the exhibition will be complemented by an interactive creative program called "Hravo o hradoch" (Fun with Castles), aimed at school groups, families with children, and other organizations. For adult visitors, the museum will offer guided tours and expert lectures on the topic.
