Coronation Medals, Tokens and Currency from the 18th Century to the Present

The exhibition From the Levant Thaler to the Euro presents objects connected with the coronations held in Bratislava when the city served as the coronation city of the Kingdom of Hungary (1563–1830).
Among the exhibits are coronation medals and tokens issued to commemorate the coronations of monarchs including Maria Theresa, Leopold I, Ferdinand V and others.
The exhibition also traces changes in currency from the late 18th century to the present. Its chronological selection begins with the Levant thaler and continues through ducats, thalers, crowns and Czechoslovak and Slovak currency to the euro. One of the most recent objects is a gold €100 coin issued by the National Bank of Slovakia in 2016 to mark the 275th anniversary of Maria Theresa’s coronation.
Historical documents and banknotes complement the medals, tokens and coins, illustrating the development of money in the monarchy and later in Czechoslovakia and Slovakia.
This exhibition was prepared by the National Bank of Slovakia – Museum of Coins and Medals in Kremnica and the Slovak National Museum – Museum of History.
From the Levant Thaler to the Euro is located on the first floor of Bratislava Castle and is open until the end of August.
