Museum of History

The Slovak National Museum – Museum of History has prepared a representative selection of products from the world-renowned Sandrik factory, presented in the Treasury Room of Bratislava Castle. Established in 1895, Sandrik was one of the most significant names in industrial design and metalware production in the territory of present-day Slovakia for more than a century. Production near the village of Dolné Hámre (today Hodruša-Hámre) began in January 1896, with cutlery accounting for up to 90% of the factory’s output. Thanks to their high-quality craftsmanship, its products gained recognition both at home and abroad. The factory’s eventful history encompasses periods of fame, growth, and prosperity, as well as its gradual closure and eventual demise in 2018. 

The exhibition focuses primarily on Sandrik silverware, renowned for its precise craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and timeless aesthetic. Visitors will see objects dating from as early as the late 19th century, although the majority were produced during the 20th century. These include jardinières, baskets, jugs, coffee, tea, and liqueur sets, bowls, trays, jars, snuffboxes, candlesticks, cutlery, kitchenware, and trophy cups.

The entrance to the Treasury is located in the passageway – on the left as you head towards the castle inner courtyard. Admission to the exhibition is included in your ticket to the SNM – Museum of History.
