The Secret of the Pinkove Kračany Coin Hoard

346 coins dating from 1624 to 1704 displayed in this exhibition were discovered by a homeowner while digging a children's swimming pool on 9 June 2016 in the Slovak village Pinkové Kračany (40 km away from the Bratislava Castle).

Based on the latest coins in this hoard and the fact that only large and medium denominations were discovered we can estimate that the owner buried their financial assets for safekeeping during the bloodiest uprisings against the emperor in the Kingdom of Hungary lead by Prince Francis II Rákóczi of Transylvania, 1703 – 1711.

Through an installation of light and shadow the exhibition immerses its visitors in the era of the uprisings against Habsburgs, setting the historical backdrop for this extraordinary coin hoard.

The exhibition is organized by the Slovak National Museum – Museum of History and the National Bank of Slovakia – Museum of Coins and medals in Kremnica.

You can visit this exhibition during museum opening hours on the ground floor of Bratislava Castle.
