The Story of the Holíč Manufactory
from 5. 4. 2023 to 31. 5. 2025
The products of the Holíč manufactory, which was founded in the first half of the 18th century by the husband of Maria Theresa, Francis Stephen of Lorraine, in order to elevate industrial enterprise in the country, remain attractive and well-sold all over the world. In museums, they belong to valuable acquisitions and are among the most important collection items that memory institutions like to exhibit even in permanent exhibitions.
Dining services and vessels produced in large series, decorative table items, everyday objects, but also solitary pieces or small sculptures represent the life and dining culture not only of the high nobility, for whom they were originally intended, but also of customers from among the townspeople.
The exhibition of Holíč ceramics, as prepared by its authors, curator PhDr. Andrea Milanová, PhD., and PhDr. Daniel Hupko, PhD., presents a diverse range of shapes, decorations, and products together with examples of creations from world-renowned workshops that influenced it.
The exhibited items are not only from the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum, which owns the largest museum collection in Slovakia, but thanks to cooperation with selected museums and private collectors who lent objects for the exhibition, it was possible to assemble a significant collection.
For the first time, this collection presents to both the expert and general public the products of the Holíč manufactory in a scope that corresponds to almost the entire range of faience and stoneware goods produced in Holíč. Likewise, for the first time, it also presents the works of folk potters, for whom Holíč production became an important inspiration.
The exhibition is carried out in cooperation with the Bratislava City Museum.
