Christian Motifs in Fine Art Collections of the SNM – HM
The exhibition presents a selection of artworks from the extensive fine arts collection of the Slovak National Museum – Museum of History. Its central theme is Christian motifs, which have inspired artists for centuries. The displayed works were created for sacred spaces, as well as for noble and ecclesiastical residences, art galleries, and collectors' cabinets.
Sculptures, panel paintings, icons, and oil paintings, dating from the 14th century to the early 20th century, "narrate" numerous biblical stories from the Old and New Testaments, depict the lives of saints, and showcase the diverse iconographic representations of the Virgin Mary.
