Northern representative rooms

Northern representative rooms

The northern representative rooms are open to the public as a showcase of the interior of Bratislava Castle from its golden period during the reign of Empress Maria Theresa.

The arrangement and placement of the rooms are known thanks to plans from archives, and the decor reflects similar preserved period rooms from the imperial palaces in Vienna.

The original interior furnishings from the 18th century have not survived at Bratislava Castle. In addition to the fire in 1811, this was primarily due to the removal of furnishings from the imperial and royal apartments to Vienna, as well as the personal belongings of the Governor-General couple, Albert of Saxony-Teschen and Maria Christina, to their new post in Brussels during the reign of Joseph II. The halls are gradually being furnished with paintings and period furniture from our own collections and new acquisitions.
