The Memorial Exhibition of Sándor Márai
The memorial exhibition of Sándor Márai in Košice is primarily biographical. Visitors to the exhibition will be guided by Márai's quotes, which chronologically and thematically present the life and works of the writer. The texts are supplemented with various photographs, portraits, documents, and book volumes. Through various technical devices, we can see photographs of historical Košice, family members of the writer, listen to sounds of Sándor Márai, Lola and Géza Radványi, and also read information about them.
The furniture used in the exhibition is original. Thanks to the Jáky family, who has supported exhibitions about Sándor Márai for decades, the furniture of the Grosschmid family was brought back to Košice after having been in Miskolc and Budapest. Some objects are only indirectly related to Márai; they come from the mother-in-law of his sister Kató, the wife of Dr. Gyula Jáky (a sewing machine and a travel suitcase).
The exhibition also includes a presentation of the writer's wife, Lola, who stood by his side for more than six decades, was always the first reader of Márai's works, and supported his creative work throughout her life. The ladies' secretary from 1838 comes from her family. Film director Géza Radványi, the writer's younger brother, is also represented in the exhibition: through valuable audio recordings, we can listen to his stories about Košice, their family home, and school, and there are also excerpts from some of his films.
