The Exhibition of Jewish Culture in Slovakia
The permanent exhibition, opened in May 1993, introduces visitors to the history and culture of Jews living in Slovakia at least since the time of the Great Moravian Empire. Three-dimensional and two-dimensional exhibits depict the daily life of the Jewish population, Jewish holidays, the interior of a synagogue, and notable Jewish figures who brought fame to Slovakia. The exhibition concludes with a tribute to the approximately 70,000 Holocaust victims from Slovakia. The Bratislava exhibition is housed in the Zsigray Mansion (Židovská 17, Bratislava). On this modest exhibition space, centuries of intellectual work, spiritual efforts, and ritual-utility arts are concentrated. Visitors can learn about the life journey of a Jew, from birth to death, exploring the diversity of religious synagogue and home rituals.
