Dialogues on Humanity

Global humanitarian crises make headlines every day. The images associated with these tragedies are often accompanied by tears, suffering, hunger, despair, loneliness, alienation, and hopelessness. The understanding of global events is currently clouded by cyberattacks and disinformation. Seeing images of crises, violence, armed conflicts, and natural disasters, we are overwhelmed by feelings of helplessness.

The contemporary art exhibition Dialogues on Humanity, marking the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions—agreements created in 1949 as the foundation of international humanitarian law, aimed at preventing the worst consequences of armed conflicts and preserving a minimum of humanity during wartime—is a response to these emotions.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Photo Elysée – the Photography Museum in Lausanne, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have developed a concept that allows people to pause, reflect on past events, think deeply, and freely express their feelings. The goal of the project is to provide space for discussion on the phenomenon of humanity and how the perception of humanity has evolved, also through worksheets designed primarily for older students and pupils.
