United by Art. Slovak-Japanese story in Bratislava

from 23. 9. 2025 to 26. 10. 2025

The United by Art exhibition is a project created jointly by two renowned artists: Japanese illustrator Nana Furiya and Slovak illustrator Peter Uchnár. In addition to their individual work, they have been collaborating on and off for almost three decades and have created dozens of joint works, ranging from book illustrations to free artworks.
Their collaboration began with the illustration of Maľovaná abeceda (Painted Alphabet, Bratislava, 1998) and continued with the creation of covers for the Japanese magazine Haha no tomo from 1998 to 2000. It was a part of this series of covers that earned them the prestigious International Golden Pen Award (Belgrade, 1998). The first jointly illustrated book published in Japan was the picture book Surprise, Surprise (Tokyo, 2004).
In 2018, they collaborated on the animated film Peter and the Wolf for the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival, which was later accompanied by the picture book Peter and the Wolf (Tokyo, 2020). The most free part of the exhibition is their joint paintings, which were created in 2022 for the PinPoint Gallery in Tokyo.
The current exhibition is the second continuation of the United by Art project. The first took place in 2025 at the Kalo Gallery in Tirana.
