Museum of Puppetry and Toys

Warning  

Due to the reconstruction of the northern wing of the mansion, entry to the courtyard is forbidden. Safe routes are prepared for the visitors to move through the exhibition and on the scenic view path outside the construction zone. Underground paths will not be available during the construction work. 

Access for visitors with severe disabilities  

The original interior of the castle has not been modified to provide barrier-free access. However, access to the castle courtyard and the ground-level parts of the expositions and exhibitions for immobile visitors without assistants is possible. Museum staff are stationed in the interior of the castle to help.

The Hostinec Červené Víno, located in the town of Modrý Kameň on Jarmočná Street, offers drinks and hot food.

What else can you visit?  

The Modrý Kameň Calvary, which is entered on the list of national cultural sites, is located in front of the castle. It was established by Baron Paul Balassa and its description and first mention comes from 1789. The climb takes about 30 minutes.

Trúbiaci kameň is a 2 m tall andesite stone protruding from a volcanic cliff with a man-made hole in it. According to legend, signals from this rock were used by the Turks for orientation purposes. It is located in Sucháň, about 15 km from Modrý Kameň.  

The Dolná Strehová thermal spa is located between Lučenec and Veľký Krtíš.  It about 16 km from Modrý Kameň. 

Where to stay? 

It is possible to stay at tourist accommodations in Modrý Kameň. Hotel Róza Koprovnica is about 5 km from Modrý Kameň, just past Dolné Strháre. It offers accommodations and food.  

How to get to our museum? 

The museum is located above the town of Modrý Kameň, five kilometers from Veľký Krtíš. The ruins of the gothic castle are visible from the main roads from the south. If you are coming from the north (from Zvolen), the turnoff to the castle is located at the beginning of Modrý Kameň. Two paths lead to the museum. A parking lot, also accessible to buses, is located near the museum.
