from 1. 9. 2023 to 31. 8. 2024
The exhibition project which features more than 100 collection items presents the triumphs and tragedies of selected Slovak participants in the Czechoslovak resistance abroad and at home during World War II. The original exhibits come from the collections of the organizers of this exhibition and private persons. Exceptional are the objects, which the SNM’s recently and anticipated acquisitions, such as a portrait of Marína Paulínyová and the furnishing of the parlor of Imrich Karvaš, the governor of the Slovak National Bank and an important supporter of the resistance movement at home and the Slovak National Uprising, are especially noteworthy. The exhibition also includes personal items of Jozef Gabčík, a participant in Operation Anthropoid, which resulted in the assassination of SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, the acting Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia.
This exhibition pays tribute to the thousands of Slovaks, national minorities and others living in the territory of Slovakia, who joined the struggle against Nazi Germany and its allies. This included heroes of the resistance in the Czechoslovak armies in exile, the 1st Czechoslovak army in Slovakia involved in the uprising, and the participants in the partisan movement at home, as well as the armies of other countries in the anti-fascist coalition and in resistance movements in occupied countries.
