From Andrej Varchola to Andy Warhol and Back

The SNM – Museum of Ruthenian Culture in Prešov, in cooperation with the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Medzilaborce, has prepared a mixed media exhibition entitled Od Andreja Varcholu po Andyho Warhola a späť (From Andrej Varchola to Andy Warhol and Back). The opening of this project, which focuses on three essential themes of the life, philosophy, and work of Andy Warhol, will take place on October 11, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. in the exhibition hall of the SNM-Museum of Ruthenian Culture in Prešov on 20Masaryková Street.
The exhibition will present Warhol’s pre-pop art work in the context of culture, religion, and the influence of his mother on the perception of art and his work. It will feature drawings from the period before Warhol studied at college, rare documents, and photographs. Masterpieces of the king of pop art from the 1960s and 1970s, films, and other visual media, as well as Billy Naem's photographs of the Factory will also be presented. Paintings with sacral themes and portraits of dictators created by the artist in the last 10 years of his life will also be on display.
This project, which is curated by Mgr. Martin Cubjak, director of MMUAW, and dr. Michal Bycko PhD., art manager and curator of the MMUAW in Medzilaborce, will also include film screenings, lectures, discussions, workshops, and guided tours for groups.
Opera singer Igor Kucer will be the musical performer at the opening.
The exhibition will run until January 15, 2024.
