Toys in Slovakia in the 20th century

The Toy Exhibition is one of the two main permanent exhibits at the Museum of Puppetry Cultures and Toys. Due to the relatively short history of the museum's specialization and its active acquisition activities, the exhibition has been continuously expanded and designed to present the children's toy in 20th-century Slovakia both in terms of content and timeline.
In the toy exhibition, visitors have the opportunity to trace the development of children's toys from past centuries to the present day. It begins with the basic division between toys for rural and urban children and progresses to modern toys, where such distinctions no longer exist. Folk toys, which were made by children’s relatives, are represented by a large collection of imitation toys. The oldest piece from the last third of the 19th century is a miniature mangel (a traditional laundry press). The exhibition also features contemporary toys, including dolls, transportation toys, children's furniture, animals, puzzles, and more.
Recently, the exhibition was expanded into new spaces. In the final section of the exhibition (as shown in the photographs), toys and games are displayed in two larger thematic units: industrially produced Czechoslovak toys (mostly made of plastic) from the 1970s and 1980s, and Slovak wooden toys produced by manufacturers (partially organized) in the Toy Manufacturers' Guild in the last decade of the 20th century. The wooden toy section also includes a stylized toy based on the design of artist Róbert Žilík.
