Laterarius – the History of Brickmaking in Slovakia

This exposition presents the development of construction ceramics and its production in Slovakia from the time of the Roman Empire up to the 20th century. It presents the most representative products of brick manufacturing created by masters from the Roman province of Pannonia, medieval Hungary as well as the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and the Czechoslovak Republic. Visitors can also try to model their own products from the brick clay in forms made according to the original tools. The creators of this exhibition also prepared their own website –  www.laterarius.sk, where interested readers can find several articles about the history of brickmaking and look at the register of brickmaking brands in Slovakia. At the moment, it includes 4,500 modern stamped bricks which can be searched by a browser with a filter.
