Kálmán Mikszáth Memorial House

Kálmán Mikszáth Memorial House

The memorial house is located in the center of the village of Sklabiná, in the district of Veľký Krtíš. The more prosperous peasant house from the first half of the 19th century was built in 1852. In this house, one of the most widely read Hungarian writers, Kálmán Mikszáth, spent the decisive years of his life: his childhood and student years.

The exhibition presents to visitors the life and literary work of the famous Hungarian writer Kálmán Mikszáth, as well as life in Sklabiná in the 19th century. Kálmán Mikszáth was born and grew up in Sklabiná, and this mixed Slovak-Hungarian environment had a great influence on his literary creation. He remained loyal to this environment, the region, and his roots throughout his life. It is this strong connection between the writer and his birthplace that is the main theme of the exhibition, which is displayed in four rooms of the memorial house.
